Job Description: Staff Engineer – Finance Data Specialist
GEICO is seeking Finance Data specialists to support the build out of a Finance Data Warehouse/Lake by partnering with both Finance and Technology teams to redesign the way they use their technologies in managing GEICO\'s business. This role requires a strong functional and technical Finance Systems background to drive capture, transformation, and utilization of Finance data to meet business goals. The Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and will provide solutions to build out, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics, while supporting the broader Finance organization\'s data needs. The Finance Data Specialist will collaborate with Finance and Technology leaders to provide a central repository for all financial transactions, enabling a reconciled source of truth for processing and revenue/expense analytics. This role also supports technology solutions for FP&A planning/budgeting, financial reporting, revenue/expense analytics, and the Finance Data Warehouse\'s evolution toward a reconciled source allowing the GL to become a “thin” ledger.
The ideal candidate has deep Finance Systems experience across multiple companies, a background in ERP and Finance Data Warehouses from both technical and functional perspectives, and experience deploying best practices across various ERPs (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, or PeopleSoft). Prior Financial Systems experience is required.
Position Responsibilities
Leverage strong functional and technical systems expertise to drive right solutions for current and future needs
Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the software lifecycle
Support design sessions to ensure systems are well designed, efficient, and meet business expectations
Collaborate with FP&A, Controllers, Financial Reporting, Finance QA & Systems, Data Engineering, and Finance Technology leaders to align goals
Develop vision and technology roadmap to build a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse
Understand finance data lake/mart concepts and data processing using ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, DBT)
Design, develop, implement, and maintain data ingestion and transformation solutions
Work with cloud data solutions (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, Snowflake, Redshift or equivalent)
Develop and implement Revenue and Expense analytics solutions
Influence customers and stakeholders and manage divergent expectations
Implement and maintain a strong control and governance framework for SOX and audits
Engage with Business and Technology discussions to align toward long-term goals
Translate business and functional specs into technical specifications
Share best practices and improve processes across teams
Qualifications
15+ years of Finance Systems experience with ERP solutions (Oracle, Workday, SAP, or PeopleSoft)
3+ years implementing and supporting FP&A applications (preferred)
3+ years working with Finance Data Lake/Warehouse/Mart and Financial Reporting tools
Strong understanding of Dimensional Data Modeling
Strong SQL and ETL/ELT tooling skills (Informatica, DBT, etc.)
Experience with Financials via vendors such as PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud, Workday, or SAP
Finance domain expertise to translate processes into system solutions
Understanding of FP&A budgeting, planning, and forecasting
Experience implementing Revenue or Expense analytics via Power BI, Tableau, etc.
Strong understanding of accounting processes and reporting expectations
Ability to communicate with users across Technology and Finance
Project management knowledge and ability to work independently or in a team
SDLC knowledge and experience
Education
Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education/experience
Annual Salary
$115,000.00 - $260,000.00
