Overview
Investment Officer - Private Equity at State of Washington (Washington State Investment Board, WSIB). The IO will participate in the private equity portfolio's due diligence, monitoring, and execution of partnerships, aligning activities with statutes, regulations, and Board policies. The WSIB operates in a hybrid environment, with an expectation of 60% in-office time. This role involves travel, including international travel, as part of actively managed investments. Responsibilities
Actively participate in the development, recommendation, implementation, monitoring, and termination of investments in the private equity portfolio. Contribute as a member of a team committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in work and workplace. Work closely with general partners, advisors, and legal counsel to implement goals and objectives. Maintain and develop relationships with WSIB private equity general partners and attend partnership meetings as required. Participate on limited partnership advisory committees. Identify, evaluate, recommend, and monitor private equity investments. Perform due diligence on potential investment opportunities. Prepare written materials for and present to the Investment Committee, WSIB Board, and related committees. Negotiate terms in partnership agreements. Assist the Senior Investment Officer in developing and implementing the overall portfolio strategy. Assist in complex cash flow modeling and strategic management. Prepare and evaluate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) as needed. Travel frequently, including internationally, due to the WSIB's actively monitored portfolio with a significant non-U.S. component. Qualifications
Competitive Applicants Will Have Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field. A minimum of three (3) years of experience focused on private equity partnership or direct investing in an institutional investment management organization. One of the following may substitute for up to one (1) year of the three-year experience requirement: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification Advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field The Strongest Applicant Will Have MBA or CFA certification. Specialized knowledge of sub-classes of private equity (venture capital, growth equity, leveraged buyouts, credit strategies). Analytical and critical reasoning skills for evaluating complex opportunities, risks, and making recommendations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare due diligence reports and present to committees and the Board. Interpersonal skills to work with a team and coordinate with external parties. Strong negotiation skills for complex limited partnership agreements. Ability to manage multiple projects with tight timeframes and travel demands. Proficiency in Word and Excel.
