Botany and Plant Pathology Department at Purdue University Job Summary This is an entry level equipment position with a 3-year limited term. The Athletic Equipment Associate will be the lead equipment manager for Purdue baseball and will assist the current equipment staff with all other sports in the Mackey arena Equipment room as needed. This position will work with the Assistant and Associate Equipment Managers to develop and monitor annual equipment budgets for individual sports (approximately $500,000 total). Responsibilities include researching vendors, products, and requesting samples from vendors, making equipment/apparel recommendations, instructing and reviewing the work of temporary and student employees, leading the creation and planning of the department distribution and taxation process of all apparel, overseeing equipment inventory and distribution, supervising the return of yearly issued equipment, and overseeing event staff apparel management. What You\'ll Be Doing Equipment Inventory/Distribution Work on the ACS inventory system, with the Assistant/Associate Equipment Managers, to create inventory records for each student-athlete and distribute appropriate gear to designated sport student-athletes. Size and fit athletes in uniforms and equipment based on the needs of each sport. Issue necessary items by sport for daily practice and ensure all safety regulations are maintained. Prepare game items for all contests for each player. Compile end-of-season inventory on all athletic equipment and apparel used during the season. For items not returned, coordinate with the Athletic Business Office to charge the student-athlete as appropriate. Inventory and organize equipment to be reconditioned for the upcoming season, including labeling and updating the computer database. Create databases for inventory of designated sport equipment as necessary. Receive all ordered items, cross-check packing lists, distribute items, and coordinate with the Athletic Business Office to pay vendors in a timely fashion. Purchasing/Fiscal Control Develop and monitor annual equipment budgets for individual sports (approximately $500,000 total). Utilize the Ariba purchasing system to process orders and track through the purchasing process. Discuss purchase needs with designated coaches and participate in budget discussions to determine items to be purchased. Research vendors, compare products, request samples, and determine which supplier to use in coordination with coaches and head equipment manager. Plan and research the yearly Nike allotment for designated sports and determine how to best utilize the budget in coordination with the head equipment manager and assistants. Supervision Instruct and review the work of regular and temporary student employees. Train students in daily tasks including laundering, redistributing laundered items, preparing uniforms and equipment for travel, and maintenance of game uniforms. Event Staff Apparel Management Coordinate with game management staff on setup of official event staff for home games. Lead the creation and planning of department apparel distribution and taxation. Oversee distribution and collection of apparel/gear for contests and review sport schedules with Athletics Game Management Staff to ensure proper apparel management. Other related duties as assigned.
