The Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office (SNP) works collaboratively with New York City’s elected District Attorneys investigating and prosecuting felony narcotics trafficking and associated violence across the five boroughs of the city. SNP shares the common goals of protecting city residents, preventing overdose deaths, and ensuring our criminal justice system is fair for all. SNP investigates and prosecutes a broad range of felony cases, affording attorneys the opportunity to grow professionally while serving the community. SNP is staffed by lawyers from the five District Attorneys. This position is for the Queens District Attorney’s representative to that office. Job Responsibilities Prosecute felony criminal cases from inception through final disposition Work with the NYPD and communities to investigate and effectively address persistent felony drug activity and associated violence Conduct hearings and trials in New York State Supreme Court Conduct investigations into low to mid-level narcotics trafficking organizations by working collaboratively with law enforcement partners Present cases to Special Narcotics Grand Juries Research and respond clearly and effectively (oral/written) to complex legal issues during motion practice. Conduct search warrant duty, surety hearings and calendar call in court parts Work effectively and efficiently to further office goals of decreasing demand for narcotics by raising public awareness and facilitating treatment for those with substance use issues where consistent with public safety Qualifications An interested applicant must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 3 years of experience as a prosecutor. US Citizenship and New York State Residency Member in good standing of the NY State Bar Preferred Applicants Should Also Have Commitment to the fair and ethical administration of justice and ability to exercise prosecutor’s role with sound judgment and professionalism Strong written, interpersonal, communication and advocacy skills Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment and handle a high volume of cases and investigations Ability to work nights, holidays and weekends as needed Salary will be commensurate with experience, ranging from $97,000 to $134,000. Pursuant to Public Officers Law Section 3(1), United States citizenship is required of all Assistant District Attorneys upon commencement of their employment, as is New York State residency.
