HM Electronics (HME) – Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Carlsbad, CA 92010, USA | Full Time | Hybrid
Description HME has been creating innovative products for the drive-thru and pro-audio industries since 1971. HME serves markets worldwide and develops products ranging from drive-thru headsets and timer systems to professional audio equipment. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
What you will do in the position
Mechanical Design and Packaging
Perform senior level design at the concept, system and detail level.
Develop product concepts, mockups and engineering models; build concepts and mockups for review and approval.
Design products for injection molding, mechanical assemblies and electronic packages.
Provide liaison with tooling and fabrication vendors; travel to vendor facilities as needed.
Generate drawings, material lists and document design work to support release to production.
Lead design reviews and prepare meeting minutes with cross-functional teams.
Identify design risks and mitigation approaches; analyze temperature, stress, shock, vibration and perform developmental environmental testing.
Maintain configuration control of engineering pre-release designs and documentation.
Develop and/or provide feedback into equipment specifications and reports.
Follow all HME standard operating procedures and work instructions.
New Product Development and Engineering Support
Participate in field testing, design qualification/verification; provide input for costs and schedules.
Meet cost and schedule targets; stay informed of new technologies to suggest cost-effective solutions.
Oversee component selection, assessment and approval for future products.
Lead or chair design team meetings; interface with all departments to complete projects.
Contribute to peer design reviews and support Sustaining Engineering to resolve production problems.
Assist in change order activity; modify designs for ease of production as needed.
Investigate customer problems and document changes required for production release.
Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
What you will need to succeed
Qualifications
Proficient Inventor (CAD) skills including 3D modeling.
Proficient AutoCAD skills.
Strong experience in designing parts for plastic injection molding.
Direct experience in electronic packaging techniques including sheet metal design and machining processes.
Expert in thermal, shock, vibration and materials analysis and testing.
Advanced PC, word processing and spreadsheet skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
Able to reach reasonable conclusions and recommendations from limited facts in a timely manner.
Experience

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field – Required
Travel: 10%
The posted pay range is $87,800 – $117,000 and may vary based on experience. Benefits include tuition reimbursement; three weeks paid vacation in the first year, paid holidays, medical, vision, and dental coverage, pet insurance, life insurance, and 401K contributions.
