Overview

Under the supervision of the CIO, the Development Associate assists in overseeing fundraising activities and recording donations to MNC. They support communications with donors and donor prospects and identify potential donation sources while tracking the progress of all fundraising, including campaigns. This role is critical to donor stewardship, appeals, communications, and fundraising events. Ideal candidates are meticulous organizers and strong short-form writers with nonprofit experience and fundraising experience. Note:

This is a temporary position for 6 months from offer and will be based in the San Diego/Temecula area. Essential Functions / Responsibilities

Fundraising Operations & Donor Support: Maintain the master pipeline tracker (prospect stage, next action, owner, due dates). Prepare 1-page donor/prospect briefs: background, capacity/alignment, last touch, 2–3 talking points, suggested next ask. Draft thank-you and follow-up emails for CIO review; log all touches. Schedule/confirm donor meetings and prep materials. Light prospect research: identify San Francisco and San Diego–aligned foundations/DAFs, corporate matches, and warm intro paths. Update and maintain Donor Perfect donor list. Generate and mail various appeals throughout the year. Foundations & Grants (Calendar + Grant writing): Own the Foundation & Grants calendar: deadlines, portal links, attachments, internal data requests, submission/reporting schedules. Draft LOIs and selected proposal sections (org overview, need, program summary, outcomes) using approved boilerplate; assemble packets and submit on time. Track reporting requirements; collect program data/quotes/photos (with permissions) and coordinate attachments (IRS letter, board list, budgets). Maintain the foundations calendar highlighting upcoming due dates. Small Events (throughout the year): Plan and execute small cultivation events (10–40 guests): coffees, site tours, porch parties/living-room salons, mini-briefings. Handle logistics: vendor holds, invitations/RSVPs, guest list, name badges, run-of-show, photo permissions, and post-event thank-yous within 72 hours. Support the Helen Fabela Chávez Scholarship event timeline and materials. Program & Affordable Housing Support (light, organized): Keep concise timelines and contact sheets for San Diego affordable housing MGP responsibilities and San Francisco new construction project; capture short monthly “impact snippets” for grants/donors. Maintain partner lists and follow-ups for affordable housing funders and public-agency touchpoints (e.g., MOHCD/HAF). Executive & Committee Support: Draft agendas, assembling packets, and take clean action-oriented notes for Development Committee, track and close action items. Keep a “Waiting On” list to unblock CIO tasks and decisions. Provide other light administrative support to the CIO. Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service. Always represent the organization in a professional manner. Safety: Maintain personal safety, use PPE and follow Company policies. Report safety issues, accidents or injuries to your manager as a priority. Promote health and safety of participants and follow safety and emergency procedures. Effective Team Member: Ability to interact positively with team members; facilitate positive change; partner with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns. Position Qualification Requirements

Education:

AS Degree with an emphasis in nonprofit management, communications, business administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered; bachelor’s degree a plus. Experience:

Minimum 1–2 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations. Skills And Abilities

Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Excellent short form writing skills (thank you notes, LOIs, briefs, donor emails). Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping. Proficiency in donor database systems (experience with Donor Perfect or similar CRM preferred). Comfortable coordinating small events, including vendor management and guest logistics. Ability to conduct light prospect research and synthesize information into clear briefs. Skilled at building positive relationships with donors, partners, and colleagues. Software:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Decision Making:

Set priorities and standards of performance; develop plans by which work can be accomplished. Tools and Equipment:

Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Confidential and Sensitive Information:

Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with client information. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit approximately 50% of the time, walk 30% of the time and stand 20% of the time. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type or handle, feel, and operate objects. The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to speak and listen.
