Clayton Services is searching for a Senior Instrument & Control Engineer to join a thriving company in Houston, Texas. The Senior Instrument & Control Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, and supporting instrumentation and control systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Direct Hire Pay Rate:

Perform instrument sizing, selection, and calibration for devices such as pressure transmitters, flow meters, temperature elements, and control valves. Prepare, review, and update P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, interlock matrices, cause & effect tables, and process tuning documentation. Specify and review instrumentation datasheets, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and system architecture drawings. Develop, configure, and optimize PLC logic, DCS strategies, and HMI graphics for process monitoring and operator interfaces. Configure alarm management systems and ensure seamless communication between field devices, PLCs, DCS, HMIs, and higher-level SCADA systems. Lead and support commissioning activities, including FAT/SAT, loop checks, calibration verification, and control strategy tuning in the field. Provide field troubleshooting expertise for instrumentation, control systems, and communication networks. Conduct on-site diagnostics, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. Maintain backups, calibration records, interlock documentation, and version control of PLC, DCS, and HMI systems. Train operators and maintenance staff on the proper use and troubleshooting of systems. Ensure compliance with IEC, ISA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA standards. Conduct and support SIL studies, HAZOP reviews, and risk assessments. Implement and verify safety instrumented systems (SIS) to meet SIL requirements. Support cybersecurity practices for industrial control networks. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with major PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, or equivalent). Experience with DCS platforms (Emerson DeltaV, Client Experion, Yokogawa, ABB, or similar). Skilled in HMI development and configuration. Strong knowledge of process tuning, interlock matrices, cause & effect tables, and field documentation. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, etc.). Proficiency in AutoCAD or EPLAN for control system drawings. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent teamwork, communication, and field collaboration skills. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline. Minimum 7+ years of experience in control and instrumentation engineering with a focus on PLC, DCS, HMI, SIL, and field troubleshooting. Certification in PLC/DCS programming or functional safety (TÜV Functional Safety Engineer/Professional) preferred. Extensive field commissioning and troubleshooting experience in petrochemical, hydrogen, syngas, or process industries preferred.
