Our brands include Northeast Foods, H&S Bakery, and Schmidt Baking Co., with products available in diverse establishments such as restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, grocery stores, and universities.
The
Chief Engineer
will oversee all aspects of the maintenance department, including equipment maintenance, building and grounds upkeep, parts purchasing and inventory, maintenance budgets, capital projects, mechanic training and development, hiring, work scheduling, inspections, predictive and preventive maintenance programs, and inter-departmental communication. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.
Responsibilities include:
Follow up on preventive maintenance, work orders, and emergency repairs to ensure proper completion. Collaborate closely with production to meet their maintenance needs. Coordinate with sanitation for scheduled shutdowns to ensure effectiveness. Plan and schedule work during normal shutdowns. Organize and maintain parts inventory; oversee maintenance purchasing and contractor management. Hire and develop maintenance mechanics. Conduct training programs for maintenance staff to foster growth. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on automated equipment. Ensure compliance with food safety standards related to maintenance. Manage safety programs and related training. Work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, including participating in meetings and inspections. Assist with breakdowns and floor calls as needed. Be on call for troubleshooting during off-hours. Work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required. Minimum qualifications: At least 2 years of experience with automation controls in an industrial setting. Food manufacturing experience is a plus but not mandatory. Fluency with Allen Bradley systems, including SLC and Logix PLC platforms, PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex inverters, Kinetix servo amplifiers, etc. Ability to read and update electrical schematics. Electrical troubleshooting and wiring skills. Understanding Ethernet networking. PC setup and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency with office software, especially spreadsheets. Strong leadership qualities. Mechanical system knowledge is essential.
