Description As an

NDT Engineer

at Impulse you will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and executing inspection methods to ensure the integrity of metallic and composite flight hardware. This role involves hands-on testing, method development, and working closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams. The engineer will be a subject-matter expert in multiple NDT modalities and will support both R&D and production environments.

Responsibilities

Identify inspection methods that meet aerospace requirements for all Impulse Space hardware

Develop and implement internal capabilities for inspections of welds, COPVs, and other hardware requiring inspection

Drive design and manufacturing engineering to determine if internal or outsource inspection is necessary

Build and maintain a preferred supplier base for off-site and on-site inspection of our hardware when we do not have internal capability for a necessary inspection technique

Establish and maintain specifications, training documentation, and other requirements for operating a non-destructive testing program

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field

Must have an American Society for Non-destructive Testing (ASNT) level III certification in a relevant inspection method (radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, penetrant)

5+ years of demonstrated experience performing and developing NDT for aerospace, automotive, or nuclear applications

Demonstrated knowledge of aerospace materials and failure mechanisms (metals, composites, welds, additive manufacturing)

Preferred Skills and Experience

Masters degree or PhD in Materials Science or related field

5+ years of demonstrated direct experience with maintaining an NDT program on an aerospace flight program (spacecraft, satellite or launch vehicles)

ASNT level III certification in multiple relevant methods and specialized techniques (Phased-array ultrasonic and computed tomography)

Demonstrated experience specifically with AWS D17.1 Class A welds and AIAA S-081B Category 1 Pressure Vessels

Additional Information Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
