Overview Civil Engineer, Land Development

at MJ is actively seeking a civil engineer to join our team to assist with current and exciting future projects. This role offers an opportunity to grow and advance in MJ’s civil engineering group, focusing on the private land development market. We are seeking a motivated candidate with a strong interest in civil engineering that is well organized, resourceful, and creative. As a civil engineer, you will progress design concepts through design development and work with the project team to produce construction documents or technical studies for a wide range of projects and clients throughout New York and the Northeast.

Key Responsibilities

Work in a project team to support our land development group projects from initial project programming up to and through construction

Experience with land development activities including land use regulations and zoning specific to project development

Assist senior engineering staff with preparation of plans and reports to support applications to municipal land use boards. Assist in presenting to land use boards on behalf of our clients

Experience with design standards applicable to water distribution, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management inclusive NYSDEC stormwater regulations

Complete field work including testing, inventory, and inspections

Participate in the construction administration support including shop drawing reviews, reviewing / responding to RFIs, completing periodic site inspections

Communicate effectively and coordinate with project team members, including subconsultants and other disciplines

Technical engineering lead and/or project manager on multi-discipline projects

Qualifications

2 to 5 years of relevant experience

Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college

Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is preferred or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment

Proficient in Microsoft productivity suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)

Technical knowledge and proficient in the use of Civil 3D, HydroCAD and other engineering software platforms

Ability to work within multiple design teams and execute to meet demanding schedules

Technical writing, solid verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues

Must be a U.S. citizen or be eligible to work without an employer sponsorship
