Planning Division

, Development Plans & Zone Changes Branch. Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Participate in the development and updates of long-range regional plans and special area plans. Monitoring compliance with conditions of unilateral agreements (UAs) via reviewing and commenting on various applications and plans. Reviewing annual reports and updating staff monitoring reports for UAs. Assists with reviewing affordable housing projects for compliance with applicable requirements pursuant to the UAs and Chapter 29 ROH, from the entitlement phase to the post-construction phase. Independently reviewing, evaluating and drafting reports recommending action on proposals for zone change and zoning district boundary adjustment. Conduct research by gathering and analyzing land use, economic, social and environmental data related to assigned projects. Responding to inquiries and perform other related duties as assigned.

You must be knowledgeable about:

Principles, practices, purposes, and scope of techniques of the various phases of city planning; Trends in Federal, State and local planning as they affect city planning; Research methodology and statistical procedures; Sources and uses of socio-economic information; and State and local laws and ordinances related to city planning.

Salary for the Department of Parks and Recreation: $6,043 per month (SR-24)*** Salary for the Department of Planning and Permitting: $6,667 - $7,417 per month (SR-24). Actual salary will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.***

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Education Requirement

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Experience Requirement

Four years of professional (post-bachelor's degree, non-clerical) experience in architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research, including or supplemented by two years of professional work experience in city planning or related planning activities.

Substitution

A Master's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from a regionally-accredited college/university may be substituted for two years of architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research experience. A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from a regionally-accredited college/university may be substituted for two years of architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research experience and one year of city planning experience.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your applicable Master's degree or FCE in order to be given credit for the substitution.
