Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is seeking a therapeutic medical physicist to support clinical physics coverage at the Hall Perrine Cancer Center. The Hall Perrine Cancer Center embraces its long history of progressive cancer care in a supportive environment for both patients and staff. The Hall Radiation Center is a best-in-class environment with two Varian accelerators (TrueBeam and a Trilogy that will be replaced next year), a Tomotherapy system, Elekta HDR platform, RayStation treatment planning, and a Siemens GoOpenPro CT simulator. The RV system is Elekta Mosaiq and treatment types include 3D, IMRT, SRT/SBRT, IGRT and HDR. We are seeking a physicist to join our experienced team of two radiation oncologists, two certified dosimetrists, and partner with a board-certified medical physicist. Newly graduated residents or graduating residents are welcome to apply. In addition to routine medical physics coverage, the Hall Radiation Center medical physics team is actively involved in project management, clinical program development, quality improvement, and reports to the Cancer Center Director. Mercy Medical Center is a standalone organization with no satellite clinics to cover. The department is fully staffed with minimal turnover and an outstanding team culture. The Cedar Rapids / Iowa City Corridor area is a vibrant area located in the rolling hills of southeastern Iowa with a total population of about 460,000. The corridor is home to the University of Iowa, several large high-tech industries, and a renowned art and literary culture. This position supports Mercy\'s philosophy of patient centered care by providing physics services to the Hall Radiation Center in accordance with the highest standards of practice and as required by regulatory agencies. Job Description

Job Duties Manage the Radiation Oncology Physics program to include the technical direction of staff responsible for treatment planning, machine maintenance and repair and other physics staff Ensure compliance of radiation therapy treatment equipment with regulatory and accreditation agency rules and recommendations Evaluate and manage a comprehensive Quality Assurance Program that ensures a safe and accurate radiation treatment delivery Develop and evaluate a clinical radiation safety program in radiation oncology Develop equipment specifications for radiation therapy treatment and radiation measurement Develop and implement new procedures for radiation therapy treatment Develop and review the dosimetric component of patients\' treatment plans Provide special physics consultation to radiation oncologists Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of equipment used for radiation treatment Perform special physics procedures such as HDR and low dose brachytherapy Perform calibration and quality assurance tests for radiation treatment equipment Perform patient specific QA measurements for IMRT treatment Oversee successful accreditation Follows Mercy\'s safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. The position requires precise and complex work, accuracy, intellectual curiosity and sound judgment. Must be able to work with a variety of computer equipment and software. Must possess the ability to perform complex calibrations and equipment checks. Must have a sound understanding of radiation safety standards. Must be a good communicator and educator/mentor for staff in the department. Professional Experience

Three years of previous experience in a radiation oncology department required. Education

Master of Science in medical physics or physics required. Doctor of Philosophy desirable. Licensure, Certification, Registration

Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology in therapeutic radiological physics required. Pay Rate Type
