Last Energy
Overview
Join to apply for the
Senior Mechanical Engineer
role at
Last Energy . Last Energy is a pioneering US technology company focused on fleet-wide deployment and operation of next-generation nuclear assets. With projects actively underway in the United States and United Kingdom, Last Energy co-locates their proprietary 20 MWe power plant in clusters, with strategic deployment near AI data centers, defense installations, and industrial facilities. Specializing in high-throughput manufacturing and supply chain efficiency, Last Energy is revolutionizing nuclear power delivery for rapid deployment and scalability. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer that can own the end-to-end development of mechanical systems. You will be working on conceptual design, CAD modeling, and scaled prototyping of novel industrial hardware solutions to modify, enhance, and integrate power equipment in order to unlock the productization of a micro nuclear power plant.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to plan, design, and execute large industrial capital projects in the power generation sector
Mechanical design, authoring technical reports, and generating analysis requirements for components
Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on structural components, both steady state and transient
Contribute to designing and analyzing tanks, pressure vessels, pumps, heat exchangers and other related components
Integrating various mechanical systems and components to ensure they work together seamlessly
Assemble, calibrate, and test hardware prototypes at the bench top scale and oversee these activities for third party contractors at the full scale
Designing fixtures and tooling to aid in the assembly, testing, and manufacturing processes
Optimize designs for ease of manufacturing, which includes considering assembly methods, tolerances, and minimizing manufacturing complexities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or mechanical design for innovative product development, R&D, manufacturing, fabrication or related fields
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Adept at solving complex structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics challenges utilizing advanced techniques and software
Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using relevant software tools including ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Nastran, Radioss, or similar
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of materials selection, stress analysis, and thermal design
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams
Creative thinking and a passion for innovation in mechanical design
Last Energy provides decarbonized, reliable, affordable nuclear energy at scale by innovating on the delivery model, not the reactor. By significantly reducing the time and cost of deployment, we are decarbonizing global energy production, increasing access to 24/7 baseload power, and creating a scalable clean energy future for humanity.
