Overview
City and County of Honolulu – Construction Inspector The Department of Planning and Permitting, Site Development Division, has four vacancies for Construction Inspector. These positions are responsible for inspecting wastewater construction projects that involve the installation of sewer lines and appurtenances to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and work agreements. These positions independently inspect all phases of subdivision and frontage improvement construction, and other infrastructure projects involving streets, grading/grubbing/stockpiling and erosion control, trenching, flood control and drainage systems, sewer systems, storm water quality, traffic signs and markings, and ADA improvements in accordance with approved plans, specifications, permits, applicable City standards, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements, and established codes, policies, and procedures. Operates a vehicle to and from various inspection sites. Responsibilities
Inspect wastewater construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and work agreements. At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education. Experience Requirement
TWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work. Examples Of Qualifying Experience
Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trade supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Substitution
Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience: An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from a regionally-accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from a regionally-accredited college or university. A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript. Verification: You must submit evidence of your Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in order to be given credit.
