Overview

Mechanical Engineer position at Montgomery College. The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. This is a grade 31, non-bargaining, exempt position located at Central Services, Rockville. Meets with users to determine mechanical requirements for projects; investigates existing conditions, includes in designs and advises the architect of any mechanical problems discovered. Designs HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems for new construction and renovation. Prepares engineering drawings for in-house and contracted construction work. Submits for permits with governmental agencies and manages the permitting process. Collaborates with the Procurement Department to prepare bids for contracted out construction work. Inspects construction to ensure it is completed in accordance with designs. Projects manage and oversee outside contractors during construction. Provides construction administrative services, such as review and approval of submittals and review of pay applications from contractors. Serves as mechanical engineering subject matter expert for the College and provides technical advice on design and construction needs to other college units. Reviews all engineering drawings, plans, details, and specifications prepared by outside consultants for technical accuracy and coordination. Inspects engineering systems in existing facilities. Develops capital replacement plans in collaboration with the College Architect and Director of Planning, Engineering and Capital Budgets. Investigates, identifies, and resolves engineering problems related to HVAC, BAS controls, plumbing, fire protection. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Four or more years of progressively responsible experience as a mechanical engineer. Knowledge of mechanical and plumbing engineering principles for building systems. Knowledge of energy conservation, sustainable strategies, life cycle cost analysis, and related codes. Working knowledge of architecture, construction methodologies, and electrical systems. Ability to perform professional engineering work related to building mechanical systems. Effective communication skills in written and oral form; ability to convey information in drawing form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; a team player. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; strong organizational skills. The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience may be considered. Valid driver’s license and evidence of good driving record. State of Maryland Professional Engineering (PE) license. Preferred Qualifications

LEED Green Associate (GA) LEED Accredited Professional (AP) Knowledge and experience with energy modeling software Salary

Salary range: $79,746 – $103,658 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $127,571 annually. Application Process
