Position: Senior Electrical Engineer Location: Houston, TX (with travel to La Porte, TX and West Texas) Duration: 12 Months Contract Pay Range: DOE About the Role Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to play a key role in integrating our innovative power generation process with industry-standard electrical solutions. You will lead plant-wide electrical system design, high-voltage equipment integration, and electrical modelling efforts supporting demonstration and commercial-scale projects. This role is critical to successfully deploying flexible, clean, baseload power generation technologies. You will split time between the Houston office and field sites at La Porte (through 2026) and West Texas (beginning with commissioning in 2026). Key Responsibilities Lead Electrical Design Design and integrate electrical systems, including one-line diagrams, distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and generators. Collaborate with partners, vendors, and contractors to specify, procure, and commission high-voltage motors, VFDs, and related equipment. Support HAZOP and design reviews to identify and mitigate electrical hazards and risks. Manage Commissioning & Operational Support Provide onsite support for commissioning and startup activities, troubleshooting medium-voltage systems, and optimising electrical performance. Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for electrical system failures. Define validation criteria for electrical systems across demonstration and commercial plants. Provide Project Support Develop electrical power and control systems for automation and safety. Conduct modeling and simulation using ETAP or SKM PowerTools. Support interconnect studies, governor model development, and grid stability assessments. Ensure compliance with codes and standards (NEC, NEMA, IEEE, NERC, CE, CSA, ANSI). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited; Master’s preferred). Minimum 7+ years of experience in plant electrical system design, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Expertise in high-power motors, VFDs, transformers, generators, and electrical control systems. Proficiency in one-line schematics and CAD design tools. Experience with ETAP or SKM PowerTools for
modelling
and simulation. Strong knowledge of electrical testing, codes, and standards. Proven ability to manage projects, solve complex problems, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Additional Requirements Ability to travel to field test sites and support commissioning (La Porte through 2026, West Texas thereafter). Willingness to work nights/weekends during testing and commissioning. Comfortable working in plant and office environments under varying conditions.
