Harbinger Overview
We're looking for an experienced Principal AME Equipment Engineer, Powertrain to lead the strategic design, development, and implementation of highly automated manufacturing equipment and systems for our Electric Drive Unit (EDU) assembly and electrified chassis integration. This is a critical leadership role that will drive the strategy for high-precision, high-volume EV drivetrain manufacturing, ensuring our lines are efficient, safe, and robust. You will be a hands-on technical expert, leading the scale-up from concept to high-volume production. Deep expertise in high-precision e-motor, gearbox, or complex drivetrain assembly is preferred. What You'll Do
Strategic Equipment Leadership: Define and implement the long-term process and equipment strategy for EV Powertrain manufacturing lines, including precision CNC machining, winding, motor magnet assembly, component pressing, precision balancing, gearbox assembly, fluid filling, leak/pressure testing, and EDU end-of-line testing (dyno). Full Lifecycle Management: Lead the entire equipment lifecycle from concept and requirements (SOR) to vendor selection, design reviews, FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and continuous improvement. New Facility & Line Setup: Plan process flow, layout, and installation of new Powertrain lines, including utility integration and integration of automation cells and material handling. Technical Expertise (High-Precision): Serve as the technical SME for Powertrain equipment, including high-precision automation, servo control, torque control fastening, process control, and quality inspection systems. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly: Lead teams to optimize EDU and chassis components for automated assembly, minimizing complexity and maximizing process capability. Vendor Management: Partner with Tier 1 suppliers, negotiate specifications, and ensure on-time delivery, quality, and performance targets. Process Optimization & Validation: Drive continuous improvement for equipment performance, OEE, yield, and cycle time using SPC, DOE, root-cause analysis, PFMEA, and control plans. Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with Product Design, Quality, Controls, and Operations to ensure successful project execution and safe, compliant integration of new equipment with the chassis. Who You Are
Experience: 15+ years in advanced manufacturing engineering, with 8+ years in high-precision Electric Drive Unit (motor/gearbox/inverter) or related automated drivetrain/chassis manufacturing in automotive or similar high-volume industries. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field. Expertise: High-speed rotor/stator assembly, winding, precision balancing, or component pressing; familiarity with precision liquid dispensing and automated leak/pressure testing; knowledge of EOL dynamometer testing and data interpretation. Automation & Controls: Proven history of bringing new, complex automated manufacturing equipment online from concept to high-volume production. Tools: Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA); experience with simulation software (Delmia) is a plus. Project Leadership: Experience leading multi-million-dollar, safety- and quality-critical equipment projects. Analysis: Strong statistical analysis and structured root-cause analysis skills.
