Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Dams & Levees
to assist in growing our geotechnical engineering and dam engineering practices in the Pacific Northwest to be based in our
Olympia or Seattle, Washington offices . Essential Duties And Responsibilities Lead geotechnical engineering analyses and designs for dams, levees, spillways, outlet works, floodwalls, and other hydraulic structures. Manage and execute geotechnical field investigations including drilling, instrumentation installation, in-situ testing, and construction quality assurance. Conduct and oversee stability, seepage, settlement, and deformation analyses using numerical modeling tools. Lead and support dam and levee safety evaluations, including periodic inspections, risk assessments, and remedial design. Prepare and coordinate design deliverables including calculations, drawings, specifications, construction cost estimates, technical reports, and permit applications. Serve as project manager, ensuring delivery on scope, budget, schedule, quality, and client expectations. Mentor junior staff, provide technical guidance, and review technical documents for quality assurance. Support business development efforts by cultivating client relationships, leading or contributing to proposals, and helping grow the dams and levees practice. Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams (hydraulics, structural, environmental, water resources) on complex water infrastructure projects. Participate in and present at professional conferences, technical seminars, and industry forums to represent the firm and support professional development. Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. Education and Licensure Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical/Geological/Civil Engineering. (required) Advanced degree in the same fields. (preferred) Professional registration (i.e., P.E.). (required) Skills, Experience And Qualifications At least 7 years’ (8+ preferred) experience in geotechnical engineering with a strong emphasis on dams, levees, or hydraulic structures, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) In-depth knowledge of U.S. federal and state guidelines and standards related to dams and levees (e.g., USACE, FERC, FEMA, USBR, ASDSO). (required) Strong background in geotechnical analysis methods, including slope stability, seepage, liquefaction, and seismic considerations. (required) Experience applying Risk-Informed Decision Making (RIDM) and performing dam/levee safety reviews. (preferred) Demonstrated success managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects. (required) Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience developing technical reports and presenting findings. (required) Proven ability to mentor and develop junior staff while maintaining high technical standards. (required) Track record of contributing to business development and building long-term client relationships. (required) Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
