The position provides skilled medical technology and histology capabilities to support the scope of the pathology and histology services, and the research related functions and goals of the Histopathology and Tissue Shared Resource (HTSR) in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position is part of the Human Tissue Bank, a sub-division of the HTSR. Daily duties include consenting of surgical patients for excess tissue use, database entry and management, tissue procurement and distribution, electronic medical record review, and documentation of pathology information all in support of translational research studies. Provides support of biomarker discovery and validation projects for translational research studies as well as animal model research studies. Prepares billing for completed work to ensure proper payment for services provided. These functions are performed in accordance with Georgetown University Medical Centers policies, procedures and standards. Work Interactions
This position supports translational and basic research projects including but not limited to Lombardi mission critical goals of biomarker discovery and validation. Requires cooperative interactions and seamless coordination with members of all 3 departmental sub-divisions within the HTSR. Routine interaction with surgical pathology technicians, Pathology Assistants, and Pathology Residents. Periodic interaction with surgery and anesthesia teams ranging from technicians to medical doctors. Reports to HTSR Co- Directors, and not responsible for oversight of staff members in the laboratory. Responsibilities and Qualifications
High School Diploma or Associate degree Minimum of 2 years laboratory or clinical experience/skills, preferably with prior interaction with patients and knowledge of medical terminology. Aptitude for working with people and detailed oriented. Knowledge of anatomy and histology. Proficient in Microsoft Office, spreadsheet applications and with file and database maintenance. Organized Initiative Problem solving ability. Typing and office experience and skills. Detail orientated Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to document and keep complete records Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively Image processing in Power Point and Photoshop Work Mode Designation
