Overview

The Ohio State University is seeking a talented leader to elevate the advancement office at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to new heights, capitalizing on existing development efforts and coalescing them into greater success. The Vice President will oversee fundraising for the entire medical center, including the James Cancer Center, and will manage advancement efforts across seven health colleges: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, Public Health, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Veterinary Medicine. The VP serves on the medical center CEO’s leadership team and the Advancement executive team, guiding a high-performing principal gifts program focused on prospects capable of giving $5 million or more. The role builds relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations at the targeted level. Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide visionary leadership for fundraising across the medical center, including the James Cancer Center and health science colleges; create strategies to identify, qualify and develop a robust donor pipeline and manage a complex portfolio of top donors and prospects at the $500,000 to $5M+ level; supervise and support a team of development professionals across units; lead strategy sessions and champion best practices in donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and prospect strategy; maximize partnerships with central service providers to align and support goal achievement; facilitate collaboration to support interdisciplinary projects and fundraising; advocate for resources to accomplish goals; build cohesion within Advancement and across units; cultivate relationships with alumni, grateful patients, foundations, and corporations to deepen engagement and increase giving; drive integration of alumni and donor relations with philanthropic strategy; recruit, train and inspire alumni leaders and volunteers. 30%

- Partner with deans, faculty, medical center leadership, and advancement peers to align fundraising priorities with institutional goals; build relationships with the medical center and health science colleges; provide counsel in campaign planning and capital project fundraising; lead strategies to grow and activate an engaged network of alumni and grateful patients; guide strategies for opportunities with high-impact prospects; communicate vision and goals to alumni and donors; guide stewardship initiatives to ensure donor satisfaction and retention; recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, and coach staff; establish and monitor goals and provide performance feedback and development; manage performance and ensure resources are provided. 20%

- Personally manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors at the $5M+ level; develop creative, customized strategies to engage transformational philanthropic investment. 10%

- Serve as a key member of fundraising leadership in the medical center, including the James Cancer Center and health science colleges; perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience 10 years of progressive leadership experience 15+ years of experience in advancement, development or fundraising, preferably in a medical or academic setting Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree At least 15 years of professional fundraising experience (six and seven figures and above) Experience serving high-level leadership such as President’s cabinet members Experience overseeing other advancement departments such as alumni/donor relations and stewardship or donor communications You Need to Know
