Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Inpatient Neurosurgery at Advocate Health Care. This role supports inpatient neurosurgery teams in Illinois and Wisconsin. Base pay

Base pay range: $53.80/hr - $80.70/hr Responsibilities

Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute, critical and chronic patient illnesses and diseases within an inpatient hospital setting. Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations, assesses and determines differential diagnoses. Prescribes medications, therapies and treatments accordingly. Interprets and evaluates patient data to determine management and treatment; performs minor surgeries and routine procedures; consults with physicians as appropriate. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies within the field of clinical specialty trained and determined competent by a physician. Adjusts patient care plans by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans. Counsels, educates patients on physical and mental health, diet, preventive health measures, health behaviors, self-care skills, disease and treatment options. Provides care coordination, including managing ancillary services, pre-operative plans, discharge planning, provider referrals and medical devices (e.g., insulin pumps, defibrillators, pacemakers). Prescribes, recommends and regulates pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies across multiple care settings, including controlled medications as warranted by diagnosis or changing condition. Prepares, dictates and signs patient care plans and summaries; maintains records per established standards and guidelines. Provides clinical direction to nursing staff and ensures continued patient care. Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to the patient’s age, with age-specific assessment and care per department standards. Licenses & Certifications

Physician Assistant license (state where practicing). Physician Assistant (PA-C) certification (NCCPA). Registered Nurse license (state where practicing). Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) or (AANP) certification. DEA registration. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers. Education

Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant. Master's Degree in Nursing. Experience

Open to a new graduate with ICU or Neurology experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

High level of clinical proficiency with strong decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a health care team. Excellent oral and written communication; ability to collaborate and build relationships. Strong organizational skills and the ability to priortize effectively. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist throughout the workday; functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing. Lift up to 50 lbs; lift up to 20 lbs overhead; carry up to 40 lbs; push/pull up to 30 lbs. Slide transfer of up to 150 lbs with assistance; exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation hazards and blood/body fluids; use protective equipment as required.
