Medical Laboratory Scientists (also known as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists) perform all aspects of testing on patient samples to detect the presence or absence of diseases. They may examine various sample types (body fluids, feces, cells, tissues) and report results to the ordering physician, consulting as needed. Essential Job Functions
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures; interprets and analyzes results. Identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training and education. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment. Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control. Assists Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, schedules, and safety. Conducts competency assessments. May be responsible for developing and evaluating new methods of testing, depending on experience and position. For BSMH, MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required). For RSFH (as of 3/27/25), if registry-eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date. Education
Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program (required). Work Experience
