Pathologists' Assistant position at

DUTIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Responsible for the organization of and efficiency of workflow processes in the frozen section and gross examination areas. Work closely with on-site Pathologists in determining grossing priorities. Take instruction from on-site Pathologists with respect to grossing technique and quality assessment. Confer with and share with other HCA pathologist assistants relevant information to facilitate productivity and knowledge sharing. Triage specimens received from surgery; dictate gross findings using appropriate terminology; refer tissue sections for microscopic review by Pathologist or Resident. Select and identify tissue for microscopic study; determine proper fixative solutions for preservation. Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification; maintain and coordinate specimen and records for specialized procedures; submit requests for special histological procedures and stains when appropriate. Maintain records of surgical pathology dissections and dictation; assist in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology; label and store gross tissue specimens. Photograph specimen samples as appropriate for instruction and documentation; perform photo microscopy on cases considered for interdepartmental conferences or teaching; maintain complete and accurate records of all gross and microscopic photographs. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement”. Education: Bachelor’s degree required Master’s degree preferred Experience: Minimum three to five years’ experience in a pathology histology laboratory setting Certification / License: Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred 3-5 years grossing experience in a hospital setting accepted in lieu of ASCP Certification or Master’s degree Note: Eligibility for benefits may vary by location.
