Position Summary The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UIC invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the mechanistic and therapeutic roles of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in corneal nerve injury, aging, and disease.
Duties & Responsibilities
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of neuroscience, extracellular vesicle biology, and ocular pathophysiology. The postdoc will lead studies exploring EV-mediated signaling mechanisms in corneal nerve degeneration and regeneration, integrating in vitro, in vivo, and multi-omics approaches.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Neuroscience, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. Terminal degree must be completed within 5 years.
Strong expertise in molecular biology (qPCR, siRNA/miRNA, transfection, viral transduction)
Experience designing and conducting functional in vitro and in vivo assays
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Mouse models relevant to neurology or diabetes
Image analysis and quantitative microscopy
Non-coding RNA biology (miRNA/siRNA)
Transcriptomic and/or proteomic data analysis
Hands-on work with EVs
