Brown University Health SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas or procedures, as required. All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients and adapt care to their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Fosters patient- and family-centered radiologic services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital’s mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span and cultural patterns. RESPONSIBILITIES Meets, greets, answers questions, and explains Radiologic examinations to patients to reduce apprehension; provides for safety and comfort in accordance with prescribed standards. Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner to ensure efficient patient flow. Processes radiographic images using the CR Readers and scans images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review. Performs diagnostic procedures with understanding of anatomical positioning, physiology, and technical factors to produce optimum results. Scans documents into Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and PACS, when applicable. Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department and/or transports/operates portable radiographic equipment on nursing units. Assists physicians in the administration of opaque contrast media. Processes exposed radiographic images as required; follows RIS and PACS usage protocols. Maintains orderliness, cleanliness, and adequate supplies for the assigned area; rotates within the department and by shift, including weekends and holidays. Participates in the training and instruction of radiologic technology staff and students. Maintains quality assurance and adheres to hospital and department safety, infection control, and environmental policies. Attire and personal appearance conform to departmental guidelines; performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic Knowledge : Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent; current Rhode Island license; ARRT certification. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, teamwork, customer focus, initiative, and reliability. Knowledge and skills to provide care across the life span with consideration of aging, development, and cultural patterns. Experience : Successful completion of clinical experience required for certification. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff; experience in healthcare environments with direct patient contact; ability to work with medical equipment and adhere to safety procedures. Physical requirements include standing/walking, potential lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to electrical hazards.
