Microsoft AI is looking for a talented web engineer to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personalized AI assistant, Copilot. We’re aiming for someone who brings positive energy, empathy, and effectiveness to the team, and who enjoys building world-class consumer experiences and products in a fast-paced environment. The Growth engineering team owns user acquisition, engagement, retention, and feature development that drives rapid growth, collaborating with Product Management, Design, Data Scientists, and AI Research teams to deliver impactful results. Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), is dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. The team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research. Join us in shaping the future of personal computing. By applying to this U.S. Mountain View, CA position, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week. Starting January 26, 2026, MAI employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This may vary by jurisdiction and local law. Responsibilities

Care deeply about building outstanding consumer-grade web applications. Build consumer-grade web applications. Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code. Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and marketing to drive user growth, engagement, and retention, including optimizing onboarding flows, improving features, and delivering scalable infrastructure. Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks and ship features to users quickly and iteratively. Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven product development cycle. Data-driven: partner with data science teams to analyze user behavior and optimize product features. Embed and exemplify our culture and values. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical discipline AND 4+ years of engineering experience delivering web applications with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, CSS, Node.js, and related web technologies; working knowledge of web protocols, frameworks, architecture, design patterns, and UI/UX principles. OR equivalent experience. 4+ years of experience in growth engineering or a growth-oriented role is strongly preferred, with demonstrated success in driving acquisition, engagement, and retention; able to provide concrete, data-driven examples of initiatives shipped. Preferred Qualifications:

Contributions to open-source projects. Experience building web applications from scratch and in internationalization/localization, scaling products for global growth. Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. Passion for learning new technologies and staying current with trends in web development and AI. Proven ability to contribute to a positive, inclusive team environment and share knowledge openly. Pay and Benefits

Software Engineering IC4 - Typical base pay range in the U.S. is USD 117,200 - 229,200 per year. Location-based ranges may apply (San Francisco Bay Area and NYC metro area: 153,600 - 250,200). Software Engineering IC5 - Typical base pay range in the U.S. is USD 137,600 - 267,000 per year. Location-based ranges may apply (San Francisco Bay Area and NYC metro area: 180,400 - 294,000).
