We’re searching for a Staff Opto-Mechanical Designer.

In this role, you will

Work with a world class R+D/Lidar team.

Work on an FMCW lidar that can see farther and with higher resolution than any major player on the market.

Work at a public company who is a leader in AV trucking that has launched NVO vehicles and is expanding their volumes.

LIDAR is critical to company success and this position is valued and has high impact.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

BS / MS in Mechanical/Opto-Mechanical Engineering and 7+ yrs of industry experience in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years in Opto-Mechanical design

Proficient in CAD design - Catia preferred, not required

Prior experience in 2D drawing creation using GD&T

Prior experience creating mechanical parts that interface with electrical components (PCBAs, Sensors, etc.)

Exposure to component design for high volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, diecasting, and stamping

Exposure to designing for harsh environments including Shock/Vibration and temperature cycling with long term durability

Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware systems

Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions

Willingness to travel within the US and abroad as required (typically 3-4 times a year)

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with high power, high thermal density, and high speed electronics (for example, server / networking design, avionics design, etc).

Experience designing for mechanical control outlines (MCO) of printed circuit board assemblies

Experience with designing to Automotive standards, like ISO 16750 and similar

Experience going through an automotive PPAP process

Prior experience with High Volume/Contractor Manufacturers, including DFM/DFA, build support, and ECO processes.

Background in electronics module packaging for integrated assemblies

Exposure or participation in DFMEA exercises

The base salary range for this position is $181,000.00-$290,000.00 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
