Overview
The Eighth Judicial Circuit is seeking to fill a judicial staff attorney position in Gainesville, Florida. Applicants who do not meet the requirements for the Senior Trial Court Staff Attorney may be considered for the position of Trial Court Staff Attorney. The successful applicant will join a team of experienced staff attorneys responsible for drafting memoranda, opinions, orders and reports; conducting legal research; reviewing briefs and case files; and advising judges on pending litigation and legal issues. The position provides assistance in the areas of inmate civil litigation and criminal law. Assignments will be based on the needs of the circuit. This position may require travel to any of the counties within the Eighth Judicial Circuit, which include Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union. Responsibilities
Draft memoranda, opinions, orders and reports Conduct legal research Review briefs and case files Advise judges on pending litigation and legal issues Assist in inmate civil litigation and criminal law matters Assignments will be based on the needs of the circuit; travel may be required to counties within the circuit (Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union) Education and Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited law school Membership in the Florida Bar or awaiting membership; membership in the Florida Bar is required within one year of hire Senior Trial Court Staff Attorney position requires five years of work experience in the practice of law Excellent research, writing, proofreading and communication skills Ability to reason logically and analytically; ability to grasp, comprehend, and analyze complex legal issues and factual details Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize pending assignments Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to ensure tasks are completed Discretion, honesty and confidentiality in handling matters before the court Salary and Benefits
Senior Trial Court Staff Attorney salary - $76,040.16 annually. Trial Court Staff Attorney salary - $64,999.44 annually.
