Summary
As an Electrical/Control System Designer, you will be responsible for the design of low voltage power distribution, PLC and Local Control Panels along with associated documentation. You will be responsible for designing and developing complex electrical systems, ensuring compliance with various codes and standards, and providing support for the team. Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical systems for various projects and equipment including, PLC Panels, Motor Control Panels & Local Control panels (using relay logic), Loop and Interconnect Drawings, Motor Control Centers, Switchgear and Panelboards. Review public and private project contract documents including plans, specifications, and estimates. Perform detailed calculations to ensure adherence to standards and specifications. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software (AutoCAD Electrical, MS Office, Bluebeam/Acrobat) to prepare engineering and design documents. Inspect completed equipment to assure fabrication to plans and appropriate standards (NEC/NFPA/UL/etc.). Prepare specifications for purchase of electrical equipment and materials. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure project completion in a timely and efficient manner. Develop electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit projects. Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout for power, lighting, and control systems. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes (NEC, IEC, NFPA) and client standards. Coordinate with other disciplines (mechanical, structural, civil) to integrate electrical systems. Support the preparation of technical reports, cost estimates, and project documentation. Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to RFIs during construction. Provide technical support to junior designers and drafters. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other electrical design tools. Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards. EIT certification; PE license is a plus. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Qualifications
Experience with control panel design. An understanding of contract documents (P&IDs, Single Line drawings, Specifications, etc.). Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, MS Office, and Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with Electrical Design, Power Systems, NFPA, NEC, UL508A, amperage, KW, power factor, 600V, 480V. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other electrical design tools. Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards. EIT certification; PE license is a plus. Excellent communication and organizational skills. A strong understanding of electrical processes and systems. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience: 3–6 years of relevant electrical design experience. Degree: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Electrical Design or related field. Working Conditions
General working environment - sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is primarily conducted indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Occasional visits to SOFFA manufacturing locations.
