The Space Systems team designs and builds spacecraft, payloads, and components used on NASA missions, the James Webb Space Telescope, and other programs. Based out of Rocket Lab's headquarters in Long Beach, CA, the HITL Engineer II designs, maintains, and operates hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems in support of the Space Systems organization. What you’ll get to do

Design, build, operate, and maintain HITL systems for Rocket Lab spacecraft buses Work hands-on with test and flight hardware Verify functionality and performance of Rocket Lab spacecraft buses in cross-disciplinary teams Operate the launch vehicle simulation platform for Day-of-Launch operations for specific missions Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation (diagrams, schematics, ICDs, procedures, test/anomaly reports) Analyze test results against pass/fail criteria Troubleshoot root causes from anomalies and communicate findings with internal teams, vendors, and customers Provide technical review for test plans, procedures, and documentation Operate and capture data from test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.) Qualifications

U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, electronics, computer science, aerospace engineering, or related field 2+ years of engineering experience with hardware or software development Experience with electronics testing and with designing and implementing electronics test systems Nice to have

Master’s degree in related fields Experience with PIL/HIL testing environments or avionics testing Code verification and validation experience Ability to document technical information via system diagrams, schematics, ICDs, procedures, and reports Understanding of electronic systems, sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition Familiarity with RS485/422/232, CAN, LVDS; CAD for test fixtures and support equipment; harnessing design Experience with Python, C++, Linux, CI/CD, Git, and CAD/ECAD tools Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, VMs) familiarity Experience building HITL test rigs at scale Self-motivated and able to work under pressure Additional requirements

Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception Regularly sit, operate keyboards, and communicate verbally and in writing Ability to commute to Rocket Lab facilities Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate noise Compensation and benefits

Base pay range (CA): $110,000 - $150,000 USD. Base salary is one component of total rewards, which may include equity and a comprehensive benefits package. Eligibility for benefits may vary by status. Equal opportunity statement
