Plan, design, and build new equipment to target the high-sensitivity requirements for an ion-trap based quantum computer. Communicate results both internally and externally through documentation, publications, and presentations. Work in a research lab environment to collect and analyze data on system and device performance. What you will do
Innovate: Develop and operate an advanced trapped ion testbed aimed at revolutionizing ion traps integrated with photonic technology. Explore: Create state-of-the-art atomic physics tools and setups to explore the effects of novel trap materials and integrated photonic devices on trapped ions. Collaborate: Work with a diverse team, including atomic physicists, engineers, and fabrication experts, to validate and enhance ground-breaking integrated photonic and trapped-ion technologies. Qualifications
You must have: Bachelor’s in physics or engineering Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) with trapped ions, neutral atom cooling & trapping, and/or atom-based quantum computers Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) in one or more of: experimental atomic physics, experimental optics & lasers, precision experimental control systems Minimum 2 years experience (degree inclusive) building complex atomic physics systems Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People’s Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen Due to contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status) Preferred/Valued
Masters or PhD in physics or engineering Experience with design or operation of a device for quantum information processing Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms Experience with design and implementation of complex optical apparatuses Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments and/or data analysis Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis Experience with software version control and data archiving Excellent written and oral communication skills, including documentation for colleagues and collaborators Strong collaboration skills Strong organizational and leadership skills About Quantinuum
