Overview
The engineer should be knowledgeable about structural, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical equipment used in lifting and handling. The primary responsibilities include overseeing all overhead cranes, forklifts, and personnel lifts. The role involves resolving technical problems, recommending design modifications, liaising with vendors, and providing technical support and procedure input to repair and testing personnel to support production operations.
The candidate must have a strong systems background to initiate and coordinate studies aimed at improving equipment and operating methods, expanding existing hardware utilization, and developing new hardware as needed. The individual must be comfortable working at heights up to 150 feet and in various climate conditions. Occasional off-hours and on-call work may be required.
This position is onsite from Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher
2-5 years of experience with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic components
Preferred:
Knowledge of AISC, OSHA, NEC, and ASME standards
At least 1 year of NAVSEA or shipyard experience
Skills
Ability to make technical presentations and collaborate with shipyard management
Mechanical background with experience working with cranes
Physical Qualifications
Climbing, color vision, crawling, kneeling, light and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting.
Environmental Attributes
Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noisy, oily, outside, wet conditions.
