Kiewit is adding a Preconstruction Engineer to its Building Group to specialize in translating complex project visions into executable plans, bridging design, estimating, project controls and strategic planning for the vertical building market into seamless delivery. You will play a significant part in the preconstruction process, helping optimize proposals, schedule and constructability. Excellent communication, attention to detail and teamwork are critical to this position. We are seeking individuals with motivation and eagerness to expand their skillset in vertical construction with experience in Field Engineering, Preconstruction, estimating and project engineering. District & Location
This position will be based at our regional office in Springfield, VA, supporting projects in the Eastern region, primarily in the Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. Some travel is required to project locations. Responsibilities
Office Engineering: Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents. Office Engineering: Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations. Office Engineering: Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use. Office Engineering: Participate in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested. Office Engineering: Schedule maintenance and perform updates as directed by others. Office Engineering: Maintain basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, RFIs and memoranda. Office Engineering: Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management. Office Engineering: Assist in generating change orders and as-built data for review by the Project Manager. Office Engineering: Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations. Estimating: Review and analyze historical data relative to the project, incorporating productions and costs for bid preparation. Estimating: Complete plan and specification reviews for assigned projects, assess risk areas and raise them to the Senior Estimator. Estimating: Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field of engineering or equivalent experience and education is required. At least 3 years of experience in the construction field, preferably in vertical construction with a strong understanding of preconstruction activities including front-end planning, bid process, scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, estimating, constructability reviews and strategic construction execution. Working knowledge of management systems: scheduling (CPM), unit man-hour performance, material control, estimating and subcontracts. Experience with leadership and management of people, strong communication (verbal and written), planning and organizational skills, and ability to interact with stakeholders at various levels. Must be a US Citizen. Willing to travel to projects in the Eastern region and work from the Springfield, VA office. Working Conditions
Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines. Work productively and professionally with supervisors, employees and others in a team environment. Perform work safely and effectively; follow oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use and policies. Work during normal hours and be willing to work overtime and weekends as required. Base Compensation:
