Overview Sayres is seeking a Senior Waterfront Engineer to support ship construction and marine engineering activities. This role involves providing on-site technical expertise, coordinating with shipyards and stakeholders, and ensuring successful execution of complex shipbuilding projects.

Responsibilities

Serve as Sayres' lead engineer on the waterfront, coordinating with shipyard personnel and engineering teams on all production engineering matters.

Act as liaison between engineering, shipyard, and oversight stakeholders for design and production support.

Apply experience in Marine Engineering areas including Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, C4I, Structural, Propulsion, Auxiliary Machinery, Naval Architecture, Deck Equipment, and Aviation Support.

Investigate and resolve engineering issues by referencing ship specifications, contracts, drawings, models, and other technical documentation. Conduct shipchecks as required.

Assist in the development of Work Packages, Statements of Work, and specifications to ensure compliance with requirements.

Develop weekly reports (status updates, metrics) on production engineering issues, corrective actions, physical progress, and shipyard performance.

Identify risks and provide analysis of emergent issues, including recommendations for risk mitigation and/or resolution. Capture lessons learned for incorporation in future projects.

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements

Senior level:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience, or High School Diploma with equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Mid Level:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience, or High School Diploma with equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Experience with management of ship construction and marine engineering technical issues. Knowledge of shipbuilding requirements and processes. Ability to work in a shipyard environment, including daily walkthroughs onboard vessels with steep ladders and multiple decks. Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on providing strong customer service. Highly self-motivated, resourceful, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; able to work with minimal supervision. Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to support reporting and presentations. Active Secret clearance verifiable in DISS or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred

At least 10 years of direct experience working in or supporting ship construction programs, shipyards, or operating/maintaining commercial or military vessels.

Prior military, maritime, or Marine Engineer background.

Familiarity with ABS and Steel Vessel Rules.

The salary for this position is likely $100,000 - $140,000. Salary ranges are not a guarantee of compensation or salary; salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
