Overview
This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Engineer position, located within OH Operations in the Akron area, is accountable for the reliability and assessment of Ohio's distribution systems. The engineer performs analysis and recommends solutions to maintain a reliable electrical infrastructure that meets present and future electrical needs. The position reports to the Akron Fairlawn office in Akron, Ohio. Responsibilities
Work safely in accordance with the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook. Assess and improve the electrical distribution system's reliability performance for all Ohio Operating Areas. Develop and maintain strategic plans to achieve reliability performance targets and metrics, including a long-range vision for system improvement and modernization. Support OH Operations through data analysis including outage projects, circuit lockouts, DEMI (frequent device interruptions), CEMI (customers experiencing multiple interruptions), and WPC (worst performing circuits). Prepare and present reliability performance and regulatory reports. Prepare budget estimates and schedules for distribution system reliability projects. Support customer inquiry responses and power quality studies as needed. Monitor field inoperable equipment logs for remediation needs. Maintain familiarity with state regulatory requirements for distribution inspection and maintenance. Develop and provide technical information to support the Distribution Control Center to ensure safe and efficient operation of the electrical system. Support the storm process as needed, either as a hazard dispatcher/responder, storm analyst, or line shop analyst. May be assigned special projects as business needs require. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Electrical engineering is preferred. Acceptable alternatives: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License; (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a technical field plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program. Engineering Technology degrees require a PE license. Minimum 0–5 years' engineering experience. Fundamentals of Engineering exam is a plus. Experience and knowledge of electrical systems, operations, and maintenance practices, switching and tagging, computer systems, work management, and electrical controls are desired; relay control experience is a plus. Current knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC). Ability to work across functional boundaries and provide total customer satisfaction; strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to write technical reports, develop work packages, and manage multiple assignments. Self-motivated, customer-focused, results-oriented, and a team player. Valid state-issued driver's license; willingness to travel across the service territory and work extra or irregular hours. Position Details
