Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure, powering the Intelligent Cloud mission. SCHIE delivers core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online businesses and Azure platform, focusing on smart growth, high efficiency, security, and trusted experiences. We are looking for passionate, high-energy engineers to join our team. We are seeking an experienced information systems and technology (IS&T) professional to join the IS&T team embedded within SCHIE. The Senior IT Hardware Lab Engineer will be part of a dynamic engineering infrastructure team enabling technical creativity. This role will oversee the Raleigh Site, server support infrastructure, and hardware validation labs with cloud services and related engineering systems, along with the operational teams delivering these services. Administrative server specification, deployment, maintenance, and support Top level support for Windows cluster and lab support infrastructure issues Support operating system deployment, patching, and orchestration systems Oversee external server operations staff Review telemetry for server functions Define process and policy around server infrastructure architecture and lab operation concerns Interface and advise engineering teams on complex network-connected hardware deployments Interface and advise other disciplines within the team on deployment, security, and management concerns Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience in networking engineering or system administration OR Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience in networking engineering or system administration OR equivalent experience 5+ years of experience in Windows Systems Administration 2+ years of experience in UNIX/Linux Systems Administration 3+ years of experience in system automation using a scripting language (Shell, PowerShell, Perl, or Python) Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements Microsoft Cloud Background Check required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of Azure cloud administrative experience delivering IaaS services Experience providing technical and operational leadership Experience providing IT infrastructure to hardware or silicon engineering teams Experience supporting silicon emulation infrastructure Solid understanding of systems administration, automation, and monitoring Experience with Industry Compliance, Security, and Regulatory Standards (ISO 27001, FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 Rev.2, NIST 800-53 Rev.4) Experience in Risk Management Understanding of fundamental statistics Ability to lift 50 pounds (occasional server lifting) Salary and Benefits
Hardware Engineering IC4 – base pay range across the U.S. is USD 119,800 – 234,700 per year. Higher ranges may apply in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area (USD 158,400 – 258,000 per year). Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
