This role supports the Chief Engineer of a specified vehicle program and focuses on the design direction for future electric vehicle capabilities, including digital architecture and cross-functional collaboration. Role Overview As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you will collaborate with the Chief Engineer and the engineering team to align the vehicle design, attributes, cost targets, and digital architecture. You will act as a decision-maker for concept freezes, engineering changes, and sourcing, and you will mentor other engineers to drive groundbreaking products with innovation and collaborative spirit. Key Responsibilities Cross-functionally lead the design and development of digital architecture across embedded systems, autonomous driving stack, connectivity, infotainment, cloud integration, and vehicle E/E systems. Lead cross-functional teams to translate concepts into robust architecture proposals. Drive system- and vehicle-level benchmarking to guide strategic direction and foster innovation in digital technologies and manufacturing methods. Represent the Chief Engineer in executive reviews, sourcing councils, engineering change requests (ECRs), and issue-tracking forums. Ensure seamless integration of digital systems with vehicle hardware, achieving performance, safety, and reliability targets across multiple projects. Work with software engineering and powertrain teams on motor control integration, inverter software, torque control algorithms, and drive unit calibration. Collaborate with stakeholders and attribute owners (e.g., Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Craftsmanship, Styling, Manufacturing) to align digital solutions with vehicle goals. Mentor engineering teams, promote agile development practices, and foster technical excellence and innovation. Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field. 10+ years of experience in automotive digital systems, preferably in EV programs. Proven history with systems engineering including requirements development, architecture definition, and validation planning. Experience with High-Voltage (HV) and Low-Voltage (LV) architecture design. Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, LIN). Hands-on experience in prototype assembly, vehicle builds, and service operations. Experience with the full production cycle of vehicle controllers (model-based design, tuning, SIL/HIL testing, deployment). Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and their architecture. Strong understanding of control fundamentals, physics, and their application to component/vehicle design. Preferred Skills Experience with AI/ML deployment in automotive applications. Knowledge of digital twin technologies and cloud-native platforms. Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and simulation environments. Knowledge of vehicle crash safety, dynamics, NVH, thermal, powertrain and mechanical systems. Experience with manufacturing processes such as extrusions, castings, stampings, and injection molding. Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, ROS, AUTOSAR, and embedded C/C++. Familiarity with regulatory and safety standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE, UNECE AV regulations). Salary and Benefits Base pay range (annual): $198,200 - $290,620 USD.
