Do you want to be part of a team of engineers, applied mathematicians and physicists as we ensure the US Navy has the most accurate, yet reliable maritime navigation systems in the world? If so, we\'re looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are the Navigation group in the Force Projection Sector at JHU/APL. We are seeking a Senior Navigation Engineer to help us pursue innovative solutions to the timely and timeless maritime navigation problem. In this role... You will be a Subject Matter Expert on cutting-edge surface and subsurface navigation systems that must operate in extremely demanding conditions in support of the most crucial missions of the US military. You will join a highly talented and motivated team of mathematicians, engineers and physicists focused on navigation analysis with many opportunities to collaborate with other innovated experts from a variety of technical fields. Your specific tasks will include... Evaluating performance of the most accurate inertial navigation systems with supporting navigational aids including sonar and GNSS Assisting in the development analysis techniques to assess the fidelity of the navigation systems being studied Participating in studies that will influence the design of the next generation navigation system Identifying future navigation capabilities and technical solutions for strategic roadmap planning and development Writing test plans, provide test support, and conduct post-test analysis of navigation sensor system performance Assisting in the navigation training to sailors and colleagues Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Have a B.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree with specialized training in US Navy maritime navigation. Have 2+ years proven experience in US Navy maritime navigation system operations Have practical experience with navigation sensors and are familiar with navigation system architectures. Have the verbal and writing skills and disposition necessary for documenting and presenting work to APL colleagues and government sponsors. Enjoy solving challenging technical problems requiring both self-motivated independent investigation and collaborative team effort. Are willing and able to occasionally travel for work and embark on surface ships and/or submarine. Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret clearance. You\'ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have an M.S. or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or similar technical field.
