Responsible for the design and development of automotive Closures structural parts and assemblies such as hoods, fenders, front and rear side doors, decklids and tail gates, with a preference for aluminum or composite designs, and knowledge of hinges and kinematic requirements from blank page to production. Design at system and component level with attention to detail, optimizing for performance, size, weight, durability and cost. Work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to integrate multiple systems efficiently. Collaborate with Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, Design Studio, and other stake owners to create world-class designs. Collaborate with CAE to interpret analysis results and guide design evolution. Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure efficient process sequences and build quality. Cross-functionally work with Manufacturing, Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping and Suppliers on tool buy-offs and secondary component changes. Create testing plans and coordinate physical tests to prove out design concepts and meet performance targets. Analyze section properties, materials and manufacturing processes through benchmarking to understand design competitiveness. Coordinate virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for designs. Coordinate and communicate with interfacing suppliers and provide direction to others to reach balanced solutions. Determine required tolerances using GD&T. Travel domestically and internationally as required. Qualifications
5+ years of expertise in automotive closures systems and sub-systems at OEM or supplier. Experience working with Class A surface data. Hands-on practical experience in prototype and production assembly with willingness to assemble own parts. Experience in technology, system and supplier selection. Experience in full life cycle development from concept to prototype to full production. Advantageous
Knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to closures structures such as castings, stamping, extrusions, joining, etc., and their advantages and limitations. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Detail-oriented with a problem-solving attitude using first principles engineering. Design release engineering experience including engineering change management and project management. Strong understanding of analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, MATLAB, ADAMS, etc. Proven 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software. Solid track record of successful system-level integration. Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent closures automotive experience from an ABET-accredited institution. Salary Range : The compensation range for this position is location-dependent. Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay within this range, considering job-related knowledge, skillset, experience, education and training, certifications, and other relevant factors.
