The Automation & Controls Engineer is responsible for executing automation and controls engineering design activities for EPC projects across various industries including food, pharmaceuticals, and industrial facilities. The role involves developing software and controls design deliverables, reviewing P&IDs, coordinating with project teams, and supporting startup and commissioning activities. Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with safety policies. Design and develop PLC and HMI software, control panels, and electrical systems. Develop control and electrical design deliverables, including instrument lists, I/O lists, and installation details. Coordinate with vendors and lead factory acceptance tests. Review process and instrumentation protocols, and ensure proper controls scope and design verification. Interface with offsite design teams and coordinate project execution. Lead and guide less experienced team members. Support onsite installation, startup, and commissioning activities. Manage project documentation and change notices. Travel to job sites approximately 30% for surveys and support. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with FE exam and 3+ years of electrical engineering experience. EPC and automation experience preferred. Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience are advantageous. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design, standards, and computer skills. Excellent communication and team leadership skills. Ability to travel and obtain a TWIC card; PE license is preferred. Preferred Skills and Experience
Expertise in automation standards, safety systems, and various PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, GE, etc.). Experience with SCADA, MES, and safety system design. Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, UL508A, and ISO13849. Knowledge of tools like SISTEMA, CCW, and PlantPAX is a plus. This job posting remains open until filled.
