Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer role at Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS). Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates NNSS for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, field, and integration services, and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. MSTS employs 2,750+ professionals who innovate, collaborate, and deliver on challenging nuclear security initiatives. Responsibilities

Maintain cognizance of assigned facility systems, provide systems engineering support for operations and maintenance, and support line management safety responsibilities to ensure continued system operational readiness; direct junior engineers as needed. Validate physical configuration of assigned systems. Maintain and update system documents for Configuration Management (CM). Understand functions and performance criteria for assigned systems per the Safety Basis; act as the subject matter expert for assigned systems. Support In-service Inspection and Technical Surveillance Requirements execution for assigned systems. Contribute to solutions of assignment-related problems with limited scope and basic complexity, using established standards, practices, and procedures along with technical knowledge to address tasks. Participate in developing field programs and designs using predetermined principles and practices. Contribute to designs, strategies, reports, and technical proposals. Perform design and technical analysis using prescribed codes, standards, software, and best management practices; address more complex problems as needed. Assist in defining specifications for procurements and initiate purchase requests; work with outside vendors as required. Develop working knowledge of codes and standards of other disciplines and coordinate work within their discipline on moderately complex projects; often serve as a member of work teams. Provide guidance to skilled technicians and other support personnel; mentor early career engineers. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program (Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical) or a calculus-based STEM engineering degree; or NCARB certification for Architects; or Professional Engineer license. Plus at least 5 years of relevant experience. Graduate research experience may be recognized. Knowledge of how codes and standards of other disciplines affect their discipline. Strong self-motivation, ability to follow instructions and procedures, and good time-management skills; well organized with broad technical interests. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to write reports and technical documents. Knowledge of instrumentation & control, electrical, mechanical or electromechanical components. Must be able to work with limited supervision. Work schedule: 4/10s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change). Pre-placement physical examination with drug screen required; MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy including random drug testing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. DOE Q clearance: position will be cleared to this level. U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance is necessary. Starting salary is determined based on market value, candidate education and experience, and internal equity.
