Lead HVAC Technician – Location: Annapolis, MD and DC areas
Hourly Pay Range: $44.00 - $48.00 (Based on Experience with some flexibility)
About the Role We are expanding our HVAC Division and seeking skilled Lead HVAC Technicians to take charge of commercial installation projects. The Lead HVAC Technician is responsible for ensuring the successful installation of HVAC systems at commercial facilities. This includes leading a team of technicians as well as self-performing installation tasks when required to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
This role combines hands-on technical work with field leadership, making it an excellent fit for a technician who wants to step into a leadership position while still working with the tools.
Responsibilities
Lead and participate in the installation, replacement, and upgrade of HVAC systems at commercial facilities
Supervise, mentor, and support a crew of HVAC technicians and apprentices with varying skill levels
Self-perform installation tasks as needed, including equipment setting, duct work, piping, and startup
Install and commission commercial HVAC equipment, including:
Rooftop units (RTUs)
Split systems & heat pumps
VRF/VRV systems
Air handlers, duct work, and controls integration
Plan daily/weekly work activities, assign tasks, and verify quality workmanship
Ensure jobsites remain safe, compliant, and organized
Troubleshoot installation issues and work with project managers, contractors, and customers to resolve them
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to plan and execute installations
Track and report labor hours, material usage, and project progress
Train junior technicians on best practices and safety standards
Participate in equipment startup, testing, and commissioning
Qualifications
5+ years of commercial HVAC installation experience; at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
Proven ability to both manage crews and self-perform technical installation work
Expertise in installing rooftop units, split systems, and VRF/VRV systems
Experience with duct work, piping, and equipment startup/commissioning
EPA Universal Certification required
Journeyman or Master HVAC license (or willingness to obtain)
Strong understanding of safety protocols and ability to enforce them onsite
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
