Overview
Manufacturing Engineer II, Turbomachinery (2nd Shift) – Long Beach, California Relativity Space is building rockets to achieve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle aims to deliver customer payloads to orbit and unlock opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation. You will be part of a team shaping a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up, collaborating across propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, and corporate functions to deliver results quickly and with technical rigor. About the Team:
The Engine Manufacturing team delivers high-performance engines and innovative manufacturing systems to improve cost, quality, and lead time. The team informs hardware iterations, interfaces with engineers, and supports decisions for the Aeon R program and Terran R production ramp. About the Role: Have end-to-end hardware manufacturing ownership of Terran R turbopumps in a fast-paced, occasionally ambiguous development environment. Provide active on-the-floor support for 2nd shift technicians by removing blockers and ensuring turbopump builds stay on schedule. Investigate and resolve hardware non-conformances and drive implementation of corrective actions. Design tooling and fixtures for assembly and component testing of turbomachinery hardware. Collaborate with design engineers, test engineers, technicians, and internal machine shop for hardware development, manufacturing, testing, and scalability for high-volume production. Work closely with technicians to improve build flow and troubleshoot discrepancies in the build process. About You: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 3+ years of experience building, manufacturing, testing, or troubleshooting turbomachinery hardware in a manufacturing environment. Project Management: experience owning complex technical projects with limited management input, collaborating across design engineering, manufacturing, and production. Manufacturing Process Experience: turbomachinery balance, machining, additive, assembly integration. Ability to investigate and resolve hardware non-conformances and drive corrective actions with independence. Ability to train technicians in a hands-on hardware environment, write work instructions, and develop process plans for complex assemblies. Proficiency with tooling design using Siemens NX or other CAD tools (conceptualization, modeling, drafting, analysis). Nice to have (not required): Experience transitioning products from development to high-volume production. Experience working on a 2nd shift with limited support available. Experience in a startup environment. Experience writing formal process specifications and manufacturing standards. Compensation and Benefits
We are committed to transparency and fairness in compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Compensation is part of a total rewards package including competitive salary and equity, PTO and sick leave, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and more.
