The 7 East Medical Care Unit is an exciting, innovative, dynamic, fast-paced, 50-bed, acute care unit, and the first-choice unit for patients with a variety of medical care needs. 7 East is recognized for its teamwork and multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of quality patient care. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. The Shift Coordinator, on a shift to shift basis, will direct the activities of and/or participate as a member of the patient care delivery team. In collaboration with unit leadership, participate to plan, manage and evaluate unit-based clinical care and ensure continuity of care is maintained.
Qualifications Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Minimum Work Experience 2 years Nursing experience (Required) 1 year Recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge The Shift Coordinator, will successfully complete the hospital and nursing orientation at CNMC. Displays strong leadership in a team environment through example. Demonstrates initiatives and leadership through involvement in projects and committee work.
Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse in District of Columbia.
Functional Accountabilities Professional Practice/Research

Ensure nursing is based on evidence of best practice.
Accountable to support/participate in the Division of Nursing's Performance Improvement process.

Staffing
Assess and modify skill mix and staff levels using manager or clinical coordinator for complex issues.
Demonstrate awareness of cost containment strategies by efficiently planning staffing patterns, level and mix to meet patient care needs.
Ensure staff adherence to unit/hospital policies.
Effectively manage conflict resolution.
Patient Services
Continuously perform patient/family assessments as necessary to ensure needs are met.
Ensure patient/family educational needs are met.
Serve as consumer's advocate for patient/family concerns.
Utilize multidisciplinary approach to meeting patient care needs.
Function as a resource to plan patient discharge and all clinical issues.
Human Resources
Participate in the performance appraisal process for all staff.
Implement change with a positive impact.
Facilitate learning opportunities for all staff.
Provide performance feedback to all staff in a constructive, timely manner.
