Counselor On-Call - Mental Health Residential
Encompass Community Services offers on-call Counselor positions at our residential mental health treatment programs in Santa Cruz County (Telos, El Dorado Center, and Casa Pacific). We provide training to support services for individuals with mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Our programs aim to increase wellness and help residents transition to more independent settings within the community. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centered. Overview
The On-Call Counselor is available to work as needed to cover shifts that ensure resident safety and well-being and support program operations. We seek individuals with some experience or education working with people who struggle with mental illness and substance use disorders and a passion to serve this population. The role requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and work with clients who have multiple complex mental health and physical health needs. On-call counselors are needed to cover swing, night, and weekend shifts, including weekend availability. Responsibilities
Respond to emails, texts, or phone calls in a timely manner and be available for on-call coverage as needed. Ensure adequate safety for program residents and property during shift hours. Respond to client behavioral and/or medical issues, facility issues, or natural emergencies while on duty. Provide therapeutic crisis management with support from the Manager or On-Call Manager as needed. Provide therapeutic intervention services based on best practices and evidence-based approaches for clients with mental health or substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders. Support administrative functions for clients, including evaluation, assessments, counseling, and assisting in the implementation of appropriate treatment plan interventions and/or facilitating individual, group, and crisis counseling sessions. Handle dispensing medication, incident reporting, shift change reporting, and household duties as required. Perform general safety checks and headcounts. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Communicate effectively and use current technology for case notes, incident reports, and correspondence with community service providers. Qualifications
Bilingual English/Spanish is desired but not required. High school diploma or GED; some college preferred. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record. Computer literacy, including email, Microsoft Word, and navigating electronic health record documentation. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with co-workers and community partners. Position requires flu vaccination upon hire. Wages & Benefits
