Departmental Overview
The UF/IFAS Department of Animal Sciences advances teaching, research, and extension in livestock species (beef, dairy, poultry, swine, and equine) by integrating modern technologies with hands-on training. The department supports ~37 faculty and serves ~80 graduate and ~560 undergraduate students across four tracks: Animal Biology, Equine, Food Animal, and Integrative Animal Sciences. Facilities include Gainesville main campus units and statewide RECs to support UF/IFAS land‑grant mission. Duties And Responsibilities Of Chair Position
Cultivate stakeholder engagement and alignment with the department's mission and program priorities. Engage with an external advisory board and stakeholders to guide program development and impact. Provide vision, support, and coordination in Teaching, Research, and Extension aligned with the Land-Grant mission. Encourage strategic, interdisciplinary programs addressing Florida's and the nation's priorities in animal agriculture. Provide strategic financial leadership and stewardship of a large, financially complex enterprise. Develop and facilitate external funding opportunities from public and private sources. Recruit, retain, and foster academic growth of faculty, staff, and students; cultivate a collegial departmental culture. Advance undergraduate and graduate education, including recruitment, retention, and workforce development. Provide leadership for statewide Teaching, Research, and Extension programs; coordinate programs at UF/IFAS RECs. Administer resources with transparency and accountability; champion strategic planning and assessment. Foster shared governance; evaluate faculty and staff; support mentorship, retention, and promotion. Represent department interests with IFAS and University administrators; collaborate with other units and partners. Background Information and Mission

Earned doctorate in Animal Sciences or closely related discipline (e.g., nutrition, physiology, reproductive biology, genetics, meat science, dairy science, veterinary science). Outstanding scholarly achievement and professional activities qualifying for tenure at the rank of full professor by the date of appointment. Effective administrative leadership and managerial skills; strategic planning and resource management; mentoring. Ability to lead multidisciplinary, grant‑funded programs and manage extramural funds. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, industry, producers, and external stakeholders. Commitment to shared governance and excellence; commitment to undergraduate and graduate student success. Commitment to UF core values and continued professional development. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in large Land‑Grant systems with cross‑unit coordination. Experience in development/fundraising and alumni/stakeholder relations. Experience advancing community engagement through programs, policy, or practice. Application Instructions
