Overview
Director, Translational and Clinical Genetics at GSK. This role sits within the Translational & Clinical Genetics team, part of the GSK Human Genetics and Genomics organisation. The successful candidate will conduct hands-on data analyses and provide strategic leadership within cross-functional scientific teams to identify, develop and deliver novel programmes to impact the GSK pipeline. The position requires deep expertise in genetics and experience integrating genetics with genomics (e.g., proteomics) and clinical phenotypes in data analyses. You will translate scientific questions into customised analyses, delivering expert interpretation and recommendations applicable across therapeutic areas and stages of drug discovery and clinical development to inform target and biomarker discovery, disease mechanistic understanding, indication and patient subgroup selection, and treatment response optimization using precision medicine approaches. The role involves leadership, collaboration, and the ability to establish external collaborations aligned with GSK strategic priorities. You will be supported in developing your scientific and leadership skills through impactful work, with opportunities to represent GSK at external scientific functions, present findings, and publish in peer-reviewed venues. An on-site presence is required (minimum two days per week) in one of GSK’s US (PA or MA) or UK (Stevenage) sites. Responsibilities
Lead activities to integrate deep genetics expertise with genomic and clinical phenotypic data to perform innovative translational analyses impacting the GSK pipeline. Collaborate with GSK scientists and physicians across functions to identify, develop and deliver data-driven programs to aid drug discovery and clinical development. Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional translational teams with emphasis on project-based work across priority therapy areas. Identify, establish and oversee external scientific collaborations focused on new data generation, access and analysis to catalyse translational insights and support experimental medicine studies as needed. Communicate analysis findings with expert interpretation and actionable recommendations to project teams and stakeholders. Work with focus and agility to deliver objectives, applying strong statistical, analytic and translational context understanding. Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in translational genetics and genomics. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team. Basic Qualifications
Medical degree PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., translational genetics, genetic epidemiology, biomedical statistics, computational sciences, bioinformatics or machine learning) Documented academic and/or clinical research publications or equivalent experience in the fields noted above Broad clinical knowledge across therapeutic areas and experience in clinical research to address translational questions Hands-on experience with genetic data and analyses integrating genetics with genomics (e.g., proteomics) and clinical phenotypes to yield novel insights Ability to design and deliver innovative analyses addressing specific questions with expert interpretation in translational medicine or drug discovery/development Experience with relative and absolute summary measures to aid interpretation of group comparisons and clinical utility of findings Proficiency in at least one of R or Python with reproducible, scalable code Excellent ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences Strong collaboration and partnership skills across cross-functional internal and external stakeholders Knowledge of drug discovery and development stages with understanding of biomarkers and precision medicine concepts Preferred Qualifications
