Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering. The Testing and Commissioning engineers perform field testing and commissioning activities associated with installation of new equipment along with troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance of existing equipment. They create commissioning plans, write livening procedures, create and run test plans, analyze test results, and compare them to expected values. They troubleshoot field malfunctions and support corrective maintenance. They also perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA. Position may require extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or emergencies. Primary Duties
They provide leadership by directing and supporting substation maintenance and contractor crews on work related to protection and SCADA systems. They interface with Central T&S Engineering, Work Management, Project Management, Operations, Data Maintenance, and Substation Maintenance to support daily work activities. They support substation outage/work planning, maintain engineering drawings, relay/SCADA databases, and contribute to NERC/CIP audit support and maintenance programs. They advocate for safety and may work in a field environment, with hands-on problem solving, company vehicle, and potential overtime. Job Scope Conduct corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and project installation testing activities on power equipment. Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 0–3 years of technical experience, an associate’s degree with 2–5 years, or 5–7 years of relevant experience if non-degreed or non-technical. Successful completion of the TECH Test (Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test). Good knowledge of regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices for maintenance, testing, installation or service in a specific discipline. Ability to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Valid driver’s license. Frequent travel to company substations or other locations within the service territory. Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day). Relevant education/experience includes military roles, project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility-related experience; or company-sponsored training programs; equivalent education/experience is acceptable in addition to minimum requirements. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Technical experience related to electrical power equipment. Electrical troubleshooting experience. Benefits
