Senior Bridge Inspection Engineer (PE)

will assist in various aspects of a bridge safety inspection project, including leading NBI bridge safety inspections, coordinating field activities, and preparing bridge safety inspection reports. Responsibilities

Serve as an Inspection Team Leader for NBI bridge safety inspections Write or review bridge safety inspection reports Supervise and direct work of inspectors, EITs, PEs, and CADD technicians Develop and calculate bridge live load ratings Coordinate with vendors, subconsultants, and owners/agencies Meet with clients to prepare and validate scope of work Prepare fee proposals for proposed bridge inspection projects Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed Seek guidance from Senior Bridge Engineers and Department Head to resolve technical issues Comply with the company’s quality control practices Collaborate with Managing Principals, Project Managers, Operations Directors, and senior management Support Company marketing and business development activities Establish and maintain positive client relationships Provide technical guidance to bridge staff Participate in team meetings and coordinate with team members Mentor and monitor the professional development of junior staff Assist the Department Head in developing new or revised processes Represent the Department Head when unavailable Lead staff training sessions Contribute input to staff annual performance reviews Required Skills

Successful completion of NHI Course #130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges Successful completion of NHI Course #130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training per FHWA requirements Fully licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in at least one US state, preferably local jurisdiction NCEES Record to facilitate licensure through reciprocity is desirable Active participation in NSPE, ASCE, or related professional organizations is desirable Ability to prepare effective and concise documents and correspondence Ability to make presentations to diverse groups Client-oriented attitude with a commitment to professional services Dedication to professional development and the firm’s success Travel an average of 50% of the time Occasional extended hours, weekends may be required Work outdoors in varying terrain and weather Stand, walk, and climb for 8+ hours a day Ability to lift 50–60 lbs and operate bridge safety inspection equipment Ability to work at heights, over water, and in confined spaces Required Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET-accredited program in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or Civil and Environmental Engineering (structural emphasis) or Civil Engineering Technology (structural emphasis) Ten (10) years of bridge inspection experience Ability to use company software for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management Familiarity with analysis, design, and production software (e.g., Microsoft Excel/Access, AASHTOWare BrR, MicroStation) Knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standards, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, and the Bridge Inspector’s Reference Manual Desirable: NHI Courses #130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges and #130087 Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures Preferred Experience

Design and/or construction of bridges Experience on VDOT and/or Federal bridge inspection projects Working Conditions
