Role description Arcadis is currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Protection and Control Engineer to join our Power Delivery & Renewable team. This is a senior lead technical position within the Power Delivery & Renewable unit of Arcadis. The position requires the candidate to directly interface with the Arcadis power delivery team, especially with the Protection and Control Team, with technical and project management assignments, project engineering, proposal management and business development. The candidate will also manage day-to-day client engagement, project and proposal coordination, project execution, resource planning, and hands-on technical solution delivery. The position is accountable to ensure project execution in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including Arcadis policies and procedures such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including Project Engineering, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Distribution Energy, Renewables, System Planning and Studies teams, as well as with other Arcadis business divisions and sectors.
The position involves coordinating the Power Delivery & Renewables (PD&R) team and performing hands-on protection & control engineering, detail design and studies for utility and developer clients in North America. The incumbent will also work with other renewable energy teams (e.g., wind, solar, green H2) with Arcadis business units. As part of the Power Delivery & Renewable team, you will help improve quality of life.
Role accountabilities
Manage and grow Protection and Control team, working with Power Delivery & Renewables Leader and Manager of Protection and Control group. Ensure resource planning and utilization of protection and control team on large/complex projects and perform quality reviews.
Support, develop, and deliver utility, developers, and all aspects of clients' projects from development conceptual one-line diagrams through detailed design and construction support.
Coordinate with civil, structural, substation electrical, system planning and study, SCADA/telecommunications, water, and geotechnical engineers to develop complete Issue For Construction design packages. Review, perform, and QA engineering studies necessary to complete projects' detailed engineering package.
Act as Project Manager, Proposal Manager, Program Manager, Account Manager and Technical Lead to support services and plan, develop, and grow power delivery clients' goals and business growth for the region.
Mentor junior team members. Conduct QA/QC on the work of other electrical engineers, designers, or technicians. Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors to support business development and project execution.
Work with PD&R Leader to develop plans for client development, account growth, department growth, resource planning, winning and execution strategy, quality control improvement, and project financial performance to meet PD&R team success.
We are seeking an individual with a strong team player mindset and excellent communication skills to join our team. The role may involve travel up to 20% to client sites and meetings, within North America and potentially internationally.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in system protection schemes and relay and control engineering design, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, communication systems and standards for transmission, substation and distribution, and generation systems for AIS and GIS substations in utility-scale, developer, and/or large industrial facilities.
Experience within Power Delivery Protection & Relay Control consultancy businesses; understanding of power delivery, generation and renewables.
PE License
Proficiency in engineering software such as SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CAPE, AcSELerator, WinIGS; experience with design adhering to NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and local codes.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
